STUDENT WELFARE AND MANAGEMENT POLICY

                            

Rationale:

This document is written to make explicit the expectations and processes, which guide and support all members of the college in dealing with management and well being issues. It is informed by the FRAMEWORK FOR STUDENT SUPPORT services document and embraces the need for emphasis on the development of primary prevention programs and practices in conjunction with intervention strategies.

 

Aims:

  • · To recognize the essential interconnection of well being, management and curriculum structures
  • · To establish and maintain a cohesive Student Services Team with common ideals and protocols in accordance with the College charter
  • · To identify student needs and provide support
  • · To enhance student opportunities through programs which promote a sense of wellbeing and build:

-       Belonging

-       Resilience

-       Self discipline

-       Self esteem

-      Respect for self and others in an environment

-      Academic success

-      Social competencies

  • · To develop and maintain Support Services Resource Centre
  • · To provide ongoing PD for all staff designed to assist in the management of the welfare needs of students.

 

Implementation:

1. The Student Welfare and Management team comprises the

_ Social Worker

_ Health Promotion Nurse

_ Youth Worker(YMCA)

Individual team members have the responsibility to:

_ Assess student needs and make necessary referrals

_ Accept and process referrals

_ Develop and review protocols re student management

_ Share resources

_ Work with external agencies when necessary

_ Liaise with appropriate college personnel

_ Communicate with the wider college community

_ Develop and deliver programs

_ Coordinate meetings

_ Keep student case management records

_ Ensure that classroom teachers implement effective and consistent classroom management plans

_ Implement school protocols and welfare and management policies

 

2. A core team will meet regularly

_ to plan and review programs and policies

_ to discuss case management

_ to plan, provide and coordinate professional development

_ to liaise with team members and curriculum decision making bodies

_ to communicate with the wider college community

_ to provide support and debriefing

_ to monitor effectiveness of protocols

Student Management

  • · KDC comprises of 2 Sub Schools,

Middle School, Years 7-9 and Senior

School, Years 10-12.

 

  • · The structure is premised on the belief that students have different needs at different developmental stages during their school lives.

 

  • · The role of each Sub School is to manage and support the curriculum and welfare needs of all students.
  • · Both Sub Schools operate according to one set of guiding principles and protocols.
  • · Each Sub School comprises of –

Curriculum

 

  • · KDC curriculum is based on the

Curriculum Standard Frameworks 2 from Years 7-10, and the VCE at Years 11-12, as well as the Senior School Pathways Program.

 

  • · The curriculum aims to support the needs of all students through a comprehensive range of learning programs and extracurricular activities
