The LOTE Department at Keilor Downs College offers two Languages at Year 7:

           Italian and Japanese          

Students choose to study one of the two Languages offered at Year 7 and continue through to Year 9 as a Pathway 2 student, if they have not had 6 years of consecutive study or as Pathway 1 if they are continuing from 6 years of language study at Primary School.

Language study for Year 7 comprises the learning of vocabulary, reading, writing and speaking on a range of topics such as Greetings, Numbers, Personal Descriptions, Famous Italians, School in Italy, Friends, the Home and Daily Routine.

As well as learning the language through the use of text books, worksheets, films, role plays and games, students also learn about the cultural importance of hand gestures, colloquial phrases, Art , History and Geography of Italy or Japan.

Students have access to computers at school and may use their CD’s to practice language learning at home.

During the course of the year students engage in cultural activities during LOTE week and in class time with Language Teachers.
