Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Monday 4th November, the day before Melbourne Cup Day, is traditionally a day that is not well attended by students at Keilor Downs College. Over recent years, attendance across the college has been less than 5% which makes running classes difficult and means that normal curriculum delivery is disrupted. Teachers find that they only have small numbers in their classes and cannot effectively continue with their intended program.
We anticipate that this will be the case again this year so we will be running an alternative program if you still wish your child to attend. All of our teachers will be undertaking professional learning or curriculum planning activities for the day and will not be running any normal classes. A small number of CRT’s (Casual Relief Teachers) have been hired to supervise any students who attend on the day.
Attendance recording will be adjusted so that no student is penalized in terms of their attendance rate.
The arrangements for the day will be as follows:
Year 10 & 11: Students will be given a study day to prepare for upcoming exams. They can choose to stay at home or use the school library.
Year 7-9: Students who attend will participate in a range of general activities, however, normal classes will not be running. They will be fully supervised all day.
If you wish your child to attend on the day, school uniform or sport uniform is required.
Students will meet in the gym at the start of the day and will then be assigned to a program of activities. Normal timetabled classes will not be running.
We appreciate your understanding and support but if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact your House or a representative from the Principal team.
Yours Sincerely
Linda Maxwell
Principal
